What is a customs bonded warehouse?

Your cargo lands. Your cash stays free.

A customs bonded warehouse is a customs-licensed facility where imported goods are stored without paying import duty on arrival. Duty and IGST are paid only when you clear the goods for use or sale in India, and no import duty is paid if they’re re-exported. In India, these warehouses are licensed under the Customs Act, 1962.

Units in Sonipat's Kundli and Rai industrial areas can use ICD Sonipat and ICD Barhi. File an into-bond bill of entry at the ICD and the cargo moves under customs seal to our bonded facility in Delhi NCR, with duty deferred until you clear it.

Key facts about bonded storage

Duty later
Duty and IGST are paid at ex-bond clearance, not when the cargo lands.

Interest on the deferred duty applies once goods pass 90 days in bond.
Up to a year
Most goods can stay in bond for up to one year, and the Commissioner can extend that.
Clear in parts
File one ex-bond bill of entry per lot. The rest stays in bond.
Re-export
Goods can leave from bond on a shipping bill with no Indian import duty.

Based on the warehousing provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Rules and rates can change, so confirm current limits before you plan.

How it works

How a bonded warehouse works

Follow one container from the port to your customer. Four steps, one team.

  1. Reach stacker lifting a shipping container

    Chapter 01

    Arrival

A reach stacker lifts your container at ICD Sonipat or ICD Barhi. We file the into-bond bill of entry, so the cargo moves into bond instead of paying duty at the port.

  2. Truck and trailer carrying a sealed container

    Chapter 02

    Transit

A truck carries the container to our facility in Delhi NCR under customs seal. The goods stay under customs control the whole way.

  3. Forklift moving pallets into the bonded warehouse area

    Chapter 03

    In bond

We unload the pallets into a customs-controlled warehouse zone and record every lot. Your duty stays deferred while the goods sit here.

  4. Delivery truckContainer ship for re-export

    Chapter 04

    Release

When you need stock, the path splits. File an ex-bond bill of entry, pay duty only on what you clear, and we deliver it. Or file a shipping bill and re-export it with no import duty.

All bonded warehouse FAQs

Can cargo from ICD Sonipat and ICD Barhi go into a bonded warehouse?

Yes. File an into-bond bill of entry at ICD Sonipat or ICD Barhi and the container moves under customs seal to our bonded facility in Delhi NCR, without paying duty at the ICD. Duty and IGST are paid later, at ex-bond clearance, and only on the quantity you take out.

Do I pay duty at ICD Sonipat if the cargo goes into bond?

No. With an into-bond bill of entry, duty and IGST are assessed but not paid at ICD Sonipat. You pay at ex-bond clearance, at the rate in force on that day, and only on the lots you clear. Goods you re-export from bond don’t attract Indian import duty.

Can you deliver cleared lots to customers in Sonipat?

Yes. Keep the full shipment in bond and clear it lot by lot as orders come in from Sonipat and the rest of NCR. For each lot we file the ex-bond bill of entry, you pay duty on that lot only, and we deliver it to the address you give us.

Ready to bond your next shipment?

Tell us what’s arriving at ICD Sonipat or ICD Barhi and when. We’ll come back with space, rates and a paperwork checklist.
